About Us
Wilson Kimball was going through a divorce when her friend from Fordham Law, Paula, asked her if she wanted to come to a bead show. Wilson was skeptical and, of course, depressed. She didn't have high expectations but she went anyway because frankly, she was tired of being miserable.
Wilson bought a couple of strings of beads because she couldn't help herself. They were so beautiful. She put them in a drawer when she got home; convinced she would never string them. Then one day, when Wilson didn't want to clean and was tired of napping, Wilson took out the beads and strung them. She tried different lengths for necklaces but realized they would be even more "cool" as a belt. With the leftover beads she made herself a matching bracelet.
This wasn't the first time Wilson played at being a jeweler. At Skidmore College, Wilson was privileged to study jewelry making under Earl Pardon. He always told her that her work was "too symmetrical", that she should let herself go "asymmetrical". Being a Libra that was difficult for Wilson but she learned to do it and it felt pretty good. So leaving her day job at work for the first time in years, Wilson started making a few funky pieces to wear around New York City. The more she wore her jewelry the more people asked where they could buy it. She didn't know. She hadn't thought of that. She let them buy it right off her body. The next thing Wilson knew her jewelry was in a fashion show in Saratoga.
It felt so cathartic to make the jewelry that Wilson kept at it even when her little New York City apartment started bursting at the seams. What to do? Wilson started giving some of her jewelry away to close friends. One of the lucky few was Kristen. Wilson gave Kristen a charm chain as a hostess gift. Kristen loved the charm chain so much she hosted Wilson's first trunk show. Wilson was terrified before the show. What if no one liked her designs? Well, Wilson sold over 50% of her work in less than three hours. Magazines called. Shopkeepers asked if they could carry her pieces and the rest as they say, is her-story.
So get out your credit cards girls (and guys who have incredibly good taste) because you are going to want to buy everything in sight or on the website or whatever... "
